GLACIER PARK (2014)
40'
8-bit electronics (GameBoy) on cassette tapes
on Unknown Tone Records - UTR-133
Upon discovering a set of photos from my grandparents' 1996 trip to Alaska, it occurred to me that there was a magical connection between the images I saw and the 8-bit sounds I had been experimenting with at the time. Both their photos and my sounds shared an indescribable feeling of iciness permeated with warmth - distant yet familiar, dated yet strangely beyond time. Being moved to explore this further, I decided to make an album charting their journey using only my childhood GameBoy as the instrument, recorded onto cassette tapes.
Mark Kuykendall, founder of Unknown Tone Records, created a video for the track 'portage' using footage from his own grandfather's visit to Alaska.
